More than 600 construction workers received free medical check-ups during a day-long health camp held in Vellore on Sunday. Thalaimurai Peravai organised the event in partnership with Sri Narayani Hospital and Research Centre to mark the birthday of VIT vice-president G.V. Selvam.
Event Details
CPI(M) politburo member G. Ramakrishnan formally opened the camp. Katpadi MLA M. Sudhakar and Sri Narayani Group director N. Balaji also attended the opening ceremony alongside Mr. Selvam. During his speech, Mr. Selvam praised construction workers for driving the nation's infrastructure growth and stressed the need to look after their physical and mental health.
Medical Services
The camp offered a wide range of health services to the participants. Doctors conducted general health checks, heart evaluations, dental exams, and bone assessments. Workers also received traditional treatments under the Siddha and Ayurveda systems.
Context
Construction labourers often face demanding work conditions and lack easy access to regular healthcare. Welfare initiatives of this kind help provide essential medical attention to vulnerable workers who build the country's physical infrastructure.
