Mahindra has filed a design patent for its Vision S sport‑utility vehicle, confirming a likely market debut in 2027. The SUV, one of four NU_IQ‑based Vision concepts unveiled last year, joins the X, T and SXT models that were already patented. The patented design shows an upright front fascia with inverted‑L light housings and space for an illuminated six‑slot grille, a rugged bull‑bar bumper, under‑body protection and a clamshell bonnet. Potential accessories include limb risers, front auxiliary lights, a roof‑mounted ladder and utility racks. The side view features squared‑off wheel arches, body cladding, flush door handles and sharply cut window frames, while a tall overall profile promises more cabin space than typical sub‑4‑metre SUVs. At the rear, a spare tyre, flat tailgate, chunky bumper and vertically stacked tail lamps are highlighted. Inside, test mules reveal a large central touchscreen, digital instrument console and a two‑spoke steering wheel borrowed from the BE 6, complemented by numerous physical buttons. The vehicle is expected to run Mahindra’s next‑gen AdrenoX OS with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and may offer a single‑pane sunroof (with a panoramic option), ventilated seats and wireless charging. Safety could include Level‑2 ADAS and a 360° camera. Built on the modular NU_IQ platform, Vision S will start with a 1.2‑litre petrol turbo from the XUV 3XO and a 1.5‑litre diesel from the Thar OG, while EV and hybrid versions may follow later. Rivals such as Renault’s Bridger and the rumored Tata Scarlet are already emerging in the sub‑4‑metre SUV space.
Context
The Vision S blends monocoque construction for city comfort with a boxy, ladder‑frame look, a rare combination in India’s sub‑4‑metre SUV market, aiming to attract buyers who want off‑road looks without sacrificing fuel efficiency, aiming to capture a niche segment.
