A 43-year-old scrap dealer suffered severe burn injuries after an explosion at a scrap shop in Church Colony, Ramanthapur, in Hyderabad on Sunday morning, October 25, 2026. The blast took place at roughly 11:12 a.m. while metal was being cut at the shop. A fire broke out on the premises immediately after the explosion, leaving the dealer, whose name is Parashuram, in critical condition. Two fire tenders rushed to the scene after a call came in, and fire personnel successfully brought the blaze under control. Workers shifted Parashuram to Gandhi Hospital for treatment, where doctors found burns covering nearly 50 percent of his body.
Investigation
The exact cause of the explosion was not immediately known. Senior police officials along with a bomb-detection squad reached the site and began examining the circumstances that led to the blast.
Context
Scrap metal shops frequently handle old and discarded items, which can occasionally contain unexploded materials or hazardous substances if proper checks are not carried out beforehand. Investigators in such urban industrial accidents typically look for hidden explosive items or pressurized containers mixed in with the scrap metal.
