Tottenham secure rare away win against Chelsea to climb Premier League table

Tottenham Hotspur moved up to 12th place in the Premier League following a 2-0 away victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Match Turning Points

The breakthrough came when Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders punched the opening goal into his own net following a corner. The hosts later saw Cole Palmer sent off after receiving two yellow cards for a foul on Conor Gallagher. Mathys Tel sealed the win in the 87th minute with a low shot inside the near post after a driving run.

Team Reactions

Spurs manager Roberto de Zerbi credited a team meeting held earlier in the month for sparking their revival. Former Chelsea goalkeeper Rob Green noted the team looked controlled and comfortable on the ball. Forward Mathys Tel described the victory as very special after the team struggled for wins at Stamford Bridge in previous years.

Context

Tottenham appointed Roberto de Zerbi as manager at the end of March 2026 when the club was in crisis and just one point clear of the relegation zone with seven games remaining. Following that survival, the club spent more than 300 million pounds on summer signings to back the manager.
