Two men, identified as M. Dhanasekaran, 48, and R. Arumugam, 42, were arrested by Thimiri police on Sunday for stealing two-wheelers across Vellore, Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai districts. Both suspects live in Ranipet. Police recovered twelve two-wheelers from the pair. The bikes had been taken from parked spots at temple festivals, hospital grounds, bank parking areas, market stalls and government office compounds. Victims filed complaints, leading Ranipet Superintendent of Police P. Sibin to create special teams to hunt the thieves. The teams stopped the duo during a surprise vehicle check conducted by Thimiri police. The stolen motorcycles were hidden in a godown before being sold without registration documents. Sale prices ranged from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 per vehicle. Authorities filed a case and transferred the accused to Central Prison in Vellore. A probe into the theft ring is now underway.

Context

Two-wheelers left unattended at crowded events are frequent targets for thieves in Tamil Nadu. Selling them cheaply without paperwork allows quick turnover but leaves buyers without legal ownership.
