Bhandari is a 2001 batch IAS officer belonging to the AGMUT cadre and currently serves as the Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved this official appointment through an order issued by the Ministry of Personnel. Bhandari takes over the role from Lokhande Prashant Sitaram. Sitaram had been handling the CBSE chairperson position as an additional charge after the Centre transferred his predecessor, Rahul Singh, on June 2. Singh's transfer took place amid a controversy surrounding the On-Screen Marking system. In a related bureaucratic change, 2001-batch AGMUT cadre IAS officer Ankita Mishra Bundela has moved to a new central posting. Bundela, who previously worked as the Additional Secretary in the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, will now serve as the Additional Secretary in the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education.
