Apollo Hospitals founder and chairman Prathap C. Reddy has urged people to start preventive health screenings from the age of 25, warning that regular exercise alone does not mean a person is healthy. Speaking ahead of World Heart Day on September 29, Dr. Reddy noted that the recommended age for health checks has been lowered from the previous bracket of 30 to 60 years down to 25 and above. He stressed that individuals should get a complete health screening at least once in their lifetime to check for hidden diseases or risks. Non-communicable diseases, including heart attacks, strokes, cancers, diabetes, obesity, and mental illness, represent some of the most serious problems facing India today. According to Dr. Reddy, heart attacks give enough warning and are preventable if detected early. For young people, risk factors include genetic causes, smoking, stress, lack of physical activity, poor diet, high blood pressure, diabetes, and family history. Although India faces these growing health challenges, the country's healthcare professionals possess the skills to deliver excellent outcomes through minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgeries. Dr. Reddy also highlighted the urgent need to prioritize women's health, pointing out that only 25 percent of patients coming for preventive health checks are women.
