Four civilians were killed across Ukraine on Saturday as Russian air strikes intensified. Two women died under the rubble of their home in Zaporizhzhia and two people were killed in a separate strike on Sumy. The attacks used cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, glide bombs and jet‑powered drones, and damaged residential blocks in Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv and other regions. In Kyiv, a Russian drone fire hit a warehouse in the Boryspil district, injuring two, while other drone raids in the capital wounded four and damaged homes and offices. The Russian Ministry of Defence said the strike also damaged a data centre that supports cellphone internet and Starlink services. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on Saturday urging partners to remember that Russia escalates daily and calling for stronger responses to stop the war from spreading. He reminded the world of the many strikes on residential homes in Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Sumy and Kharkiv. Earlier this week Zelenskyy appealed at the United Nations for sanctions and trade bans to cut Russia’s revenue, but no breakthrough has emerged. Ukraine’s own long‑range drones have turned the tables, hitting Russian oil infrastructure in the southern Krasnodar region; the strike killed three people and wounded two, and sparked fires at two industrial sites, according to regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev. The war, now four and a half years after Moscow’s full‑scale invasion, shows no sign of slowing.

What Happened

Russian missiles, glide bombs and jet‑powered drones struck Ukrainian cities on September 26, killing four civilians and injuring several others. Ukrainian long‑range drones hit Russian oil infrastructure in the southern Krasnodar region, killing three people and wounding two, while also starting fires at two industrial sites.

Why It Matters

Civilian casualties underline the human cost of the conflict and increase pressure on the international community to act. Damage to Russian oil facilities reduces their output and can affect the country's revenue stream that funds the war. The data centre hit in Kyiv could disrupt internet and satellite communications for ordinary people.

What Happens Next

Ukraine is likely to keep using drones against Russian energy sites, and Russia is expected to continue air raids on Ukrainian towns. The United Nations and other partners may revisit Zelenskyy's call for stronger sanctions, but a clear diplomatic solution remains absent.
