Virat Kohli's Announcement
Star Indian batsman Virat Kohli stated that the upcoming 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup in South Africa will be his final ODI World Cup appearance for India. Kohli shared this update in an interview with JioStar ahead of the domestic ODI series against West Indies. He explained that giving his absolute best and leaving everything on the field is his primary motivation for this tournament.
Physical and Mental Demands
Discussing the rigours of the 50-over format, Kohli noted that maintaining top physical and mental performance across 10 straight matches in foreign conditions is very tiring. His World Cup record includes 1,795 runs from 37 matches at an average of roughly 59.83, featuring five centuries and 12 half-centuries. Across his complete ODI career, he has scored 14,941 runs in 302 innings with 54 centuries.
Rohit Sharma's Perspective and Upcoming Series
Former India captain Rohit Sharma also commented on his future in the sport, stating that the thought of his cricket career ending does not cross his mind and new challenges always exist while playing. A three-match ODI series between India and West Indies begins on Sunday, marking the start of the journey toward the 2027 tournament with both players eager for the challenge.
