The Central Crime Branch questioned Congress leader Kripa Alva as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged sting operation targeting former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Ms. Alva, who is from Dakshina Kannada district, appeared before the investigating officer multiple times, including on a recent Saturday. Investigators recorded her statement and allowed her to leave without making an arrest.
The Investigation
Police summoned Ms. Alva after a social media video went viral showing her alongside Power TV managing director Rakesh Shetty. Authorities previously arrested 22-year-old Ritesh Pandey from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh in connection with the case, though he is currently out on bail. Based on statements from Mr. Pandey, police are now searching for two other individuals linked to the Janata Dal Secular IT cell, including a former journalist. These two suspects allegedly handed a pendrive containing sting operation materials to Mr. Pandey.
Context
Sting operations and video leaks often trigger swift political battles and police inquiries involving rival party members in high-stakes regional politics. Law enforcement agencies typically trace digital evidence like viral videos and pendrives to uncover the chain of distribution behind controversial political leaks.
