Devotees gathered on Monday evening in Visakhapatnam to kick off a month-long festival celebrating the Kartika month. The Sri Damodara Deepotsavam event takes place at the Sri Sri Radha Madana Mohana Mandir located on the local IIM Road in the Gambheeram area.
Festival Details
Organised by the Hare Krishna Movement in the city, the celebrations run until November 24 with daily evening programmes starting at seven o'clock. The opening day included ritual worship, devotional singing, and a special talk about the importance of this holy month delivered by the group's president, Nishkinchana Bhakta Dasa. Followers lit small lamps filled with ghee while chanting traditional verses.
Context
Festivals during the Kartika month hold a special place in the traditional calendar, drawing large numbers of people to temples for evening prayers and lamp offerings. Organisers frequently open such community events to the general public to encourage wider participation in seasonal rituals.
