Explosions rocked two places in Kannavam at roughly 11.10 p.m. on Sunday, October 25. The blasts took place near the Kannavam Range Forest Office and at Chunda. Police have started an inquiry and sent forensic experts, bomb detection units, and dog squads to the spots.
Investigation Details
Initial checks point to the use of crude bombs. Officers found steel pieces thought to be from the blasts near the areas, along with a strong smell of explosives. The police have filed a case under the Explosive Substances Act of 1908. A local police official noted that both blasts happened on roads. At Chunda, homes stood close to the blast spot, while homes near the forest office were slightly farther away. A lack of CCTV cameras in these zones is making it hard for investigators to find video proof.
Context
Crude bombs are homemade explosives that are often linked to local clashes or illegal activities. Police forces use specialized forensic and dog squads to collect physical traces when such devices are detonated. Investigations in such cases typically rely heavily on local witness accounts when digital surveillance is missing.
