UPDATE - follow-up to United States Grand Prix: Formula One – live: Kimi Antonelli holds a steady lead over Max Verstappen during the opening phase of the race in Austin, while behind them the Ferrari teammates Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton fight for early position.

On the Track

Lance Stroll starts from the pit lane following setup changes, while a virtual safety car briefly appears on lap two after debris lands on the track. Verstappen moves up two places to eighth following an early pit stop on soft tyres, and Leclerc pits on lap sixteen to emerge in sixth place ahead of Hamilton. Hamilton runs on medium tyres after pitting on lap fifteen and needs a fourth-place finish or better to keep his title hopes alive. Gabriel Bortoleto comes under investigation for leaving the track and gaining an advantage, dropping to seventeenth place, while George Russell receives a five-second penalty for a similar infraction during an early battle with Oscar Piastri.

Context

Formula One races involve high-speed tactical battles where tyre choices, pit stop timing, and on-track penalties frequently alter the running order. Drivers must balance speed with car preservation over dozens of laps while managing changing gaps to their competitors.
