Constable Abhay Singh of the BardaGaon police outpost in Kota was arrested on Sunday after being caught taking a ₹2,000 bribe from a car driver involved in a road‑accident investigation. The driver had already handed Singh ₹700 earlier in the same case. Singh had threatened to file a false case against the driver under Section 3 of the Atrocity Act unless the money was paid. The incident stemmed from an accident on 21 October when a dumper hit a motorcyclist, who then collided with a car. The dumper driver later lodged a complaint against the car driver under the Atrocity Act. The investigation was assigned to Singh, who instead tried to extract money by promising to “settle” the matter. The aggrieved driver filed a written complaint with the Anti‑Corruption Bureau (ACB). ACB officials verified the complaint and learned of the earlier ₹700 payment. On Sunday the ACB set up a special trap at the BardaGaon outpost; the driver handed Singh the remaining ₹2,000 and the ACB team seized him on the spot. ACB Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Swarnakar described the operation and confirmed that Singh was taken in “red‑handed". ## Context The case shows how ACB uses secret‑trap operations to catch low‑level police officers abusing their investigative powers, a practice that has become common in several Indian states.
