State agriculture department has opened online booking for Rabi‑season seeds with subsidies ranging from 50% to 75% in Hapur district. Wheat, mustard, rye, chickpea and pea seeds are offered, with wheat, mustard and rye at 50% discount and chickpea and pea at 75% discount. Farmers can apply through the Darshan portal based on the size of their land. Four government seed centres in the district have received 800 quintals of wheat seed, including the high‑yield varieties DBW‑303, HD‑3390 and DBW‑327. Chickpea, pea, lentil and mustard seeds are also stocked. District Agriculture Officer Gaurav Kumar said market price for wheat seed is about ₹100 per kilogram, so the subsidy will cut costs sharply. The scheme aims to provide quality seed and lower cultivation expenses. In neighboring Bahraich, the department has similarly accelerated wheat seed distribution, sending 3,000 quintals of wheat seed to state seed stores and planning a total sales target of 35,000 quintals. Farmers there receive a 50% subsidy on wheat seed and a 25% subsidy on mustard and lentil seeds. District Agriculture Officer Dr. Subedar Yadav noted that sowing is expected to begin in the first week of November and urged timely preparation.
Context
Such seed‑subsidy programs are part of the state’s effort to boost Rabi‑season yields and protect farmers from high input costs. By linking subsidies to online booking, authorities hope to streamline distribution and reduce delays.
