Market benchmarks Sensex and Nifty 50 dropped more than two percent each for the week ended 23 October, driven by rising crude oil prices and a correction following a previous rally of about 1,000 points. Jigar S. Patel, Senior Manager of Equity Technical Research at Anand Rathi Share and Stock Brokers, stated that a pullback after the sharp advance was expected.

Market Outlook

Despite a recent correction of about 700 points, the hourly Relative Strength Index stayed above 40, showing that underlying momentum remains resilient. Analysts maintain a buy-on-dips strategy as long as Nifty holds above 22,200 on a daily closing basis. For Bank Nifty, the 54,000 to 53,800 zone is critical for recovery, while a move past 55,000 could push gains towards 56,000.

Stock Strategies

For One 97 Communications, known as Paytm, Patel suggests selling between 1,630 and 1,635 rupees, with a target price of 1,500 rupees and a stop-loss at 1,690 rupees, after the stock breached support levels of 1,640 and 1,620 rupees. For Sapphire Foods, a buy strategy is recommended with a target price of 221 rupees and a stop-loss at 180 rupees, as the stock trades near its demand zone of 185 to 190 rupees. For Larsen & Toubro, or L&T, a buy recommendation carries a target of 3,900 rupees and a stop-loss at 3550 rupees, supported by a base formation near the 3,600 rupee level.

Context

Technical analysis in stock markets involves studying past price movements and indicators like the Relative Strength Index to predict future trends. Share prices often fluctuate based on external factors such as global crude oil prices and broader economic conditions.
