Shares of Seshasayee Paper and Boards climbed on Monday following a sharp rise in net profit and revenue for the quarter ending in September. Profit after tax nearly doubled to 34.96 crore rupees compared to the same period last year, while revenue from operations grew by 45.3% to 502.99 crore rupees.

Earnings and Operations

The manufacturer pointed to higher factory output and stronger sales as key drivers behind the financial gains. Production grew by 22.8% to 70,804 tonnes, and sales volumes went up by 35.2% to 66,342 tonnes. For the first half of the financial year, the company registered a net profit of 68.55 crore rupees on a total revenue of 994.99 crore rupees. Export volumes saw a notable jump of 187% over the six-month period, backed by steady order inflows.

Future Plans and Challenges

Chairman N. Gopalaratnam noted that ongoing expansion work, including the Mill Development Plan-IV at the Erode unit, remains on track for future commissioning. Renewable power from new solar and wind installations is expected to arrive in the December quarter. Despite these positive updates, management warned of upcoming margin pressures due to rising freight rates and higher costs for coal, chemicals, and wood driven by conflicts in West Asia. Market analyst Gaurav Arora pointed out that although heavy trading volumes drove a recent price recovery, the overall chart patterns for the stock remain weak unless key support levels hold.

Context

Paper manufacturers often face cyclical cost pressures linked to raw materials like wood and imported inputs such as coal and chemicals. Companies in this sector regularly invest in captive renewable energy and mill upgrades to manage long-term operating costs and improve production efficiency.
