A major fire destroyed about forty shops in Shiv Market opposite the Jammu Railway Station after breaking out at around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026. Officials reported no casualties from the incident, though the blaze burned for nearly five hours before emergency services brought it under control at around 3:15 a.m. on Monday, October 26.
Details
The destroyed shops mostly sold food supplies, dry fruits, and blankets. Early checks indicate a short circuit in one shop started the fire, and winds helped the flames spread quickly through the area. Narrow paths made it hard for fire trucks to reach the shops directly, forcing fire teams to attack the blaze from the rear side to stop it from spreading further.
Context
Fires caused by short circuits in busy commercial areas often spread quickly due to heavy stock and close-packed structures. Dense market clusters with narrow entryways frequently present major challenges for firefighting units attempting rapid access.
