Flash floods on Monday, October 26, 2026, inundated Phuket island in southern Thailand after overnight heavy rain. All three districts of the province, including the capital Phuket City, were submerged.
What Happened
Water levels began to fall by late morning, yet low‑lying streets stayed under water and small vehicles were told to stay away. Deputy governor Romdon Hayiawae said parts of the province also suffered mudslides and crews were clearing debris to keep canals clear. Social media videos showed floodwater filling homes and roads, with cars half buried in mud and rocks. About 100 households were reported as affected, and no casualties were recorded.
Response
The Thai Meteorological Department warned that heavy, continuous rain will continue in the south until Wednesday, October 28, raising the risk of more floods and landslides.
Context
Thailand’s rainy season often brings intense downpours that can quickly become flash floods, especially on low‑lying islands such as Phuket. These floods strain local emergency services and can disrupt the island’s tourism‑driven economy.
