Unknown persons broke into a newly built house near Hosur and stole ten sovereigns of gold jewellery, fifty thousand rupees in cash, and silver items.

The Incident

Anthony Selvaraj, aged fifty, lives with his wife Maria Devasena, aged forty-three, in the VGP Layout area of Anchettipalli near Hosur. Anthony runs a tea shop, while their son Joshua Antony studies at a college in Tirupattur. The family moved into their new house about a month ago. On Saturday night at around eight o'clock, the family returned home after Anthony's son came to visit and found that the main door and iron gate had been forced open. Upon checking inside, they discovered that gold jewellery, cash, and silver articles kept in the wardrobe were missing.

Police Investigation

Based on a complaint filed by Anthony Selvaraj, Mathigiri police registered a case and launched an investigation with the help of fingerprint experts. According to Dinamalar, police also recovered CCTV footage from the surrounding area to track down the culprits. Hosur Deputy Superintendent of Police Sudheer inspected the spot and is leading the inquiry.

Context

House break-ins often happen when residential properties are left locked while family members are away at work or running businesses during the day or evening. Police departments routinely advise residents to install security cameras and secure valuables in bank lockers to help prevent such property crimes.
