Official Remarks
Governor and University Chancellor Om Prakash Mathur presided over the ceremony and urged academic institutions to focus on multidisciplinary research, foster innovation, and build stronger ties with industry. Higher Education Minister and University Pro-Chancellor Roji M. John noted that all four recipients are former students of the institution. Vice-Chancellor in-charge Mohanan Kunnummal also attended the gathering.
Awardee Reflections
Mr. Thampi reflected on his journey through mathematics, civil engineering, literature, and cinema spanning several decades. Mr. Sreejesh stated that his main takeaway from twenty-five years in sports was the value of perseverance through hardships. Dr. Radhakrishnan credited his early schooling in the State for his career path at the space agency and highlighted the Mars Orbiter Mission as a feat of teamwork. Mr. Madhu remarked on the unique significance of receiving the honorary title compared to regular academic testing.
Context
Honorary degrees are special academic titles awarded by universities to individuals who have made notable contributions to society, culture, science, or public service. These recognitions celebrate lifetime achievement rather than completion of standard coursework. State universities in India regularly confer such honors during annual convocation ceremonies.
