Indian Overseas Bank is planning to raise 500 million dollars through external commercial borrowings. The bank will collect this money in two separate parts by the month of December.
Financial Growth
The public sector lender recently reported a 56 percent jump in its net profit for the second quarter, reaching 1,912 crore rupees. Along with the higher profit, the bank also recorded stronger credit growth and better asset quality.
Context
External commercial borrowings allow domestic companies to borrow money from foreign sources in foreign currency to fund their operations or growth plans. Stronger quarterly profits and better asset quality typically show that a bank is managing its loans well and reducing the burden of bad debts.
