Punjab cricketer Naman Dhir stepped onto the field for his first international match for India on Sunday. He played against the West Indies at the Greenfield International Stadium located in Thiruvananthapuram. Before the game, Dhir shared his feelings in a video clip posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India on social media. He mentioned that he stared at the team selection list for ten minutes because he could not believe his eyes. He immediately called his father, who showed a lot of emotion and happiness over the news.
A Long Journey
Dhir noted that pulling on the national jersey is a life goal for every child who picks up a bat and ball. He reflected on his past struggles, admitting that a younger version of himself almost thought about quitting the sport. He spent nearly six to seven years away from the game after playing under-16 cricket for Punjab, only to return strongly at the under-25 level. That comeback led to a spot in the Ranji Trophy squad and later a chance in the Indian Premier League, which completely changed his career path.
