UPDATE - follow-up to Six years on, ringed Eurasian whimbrel resighted on Keralam coast; marked Tibetan sand-plover also recorded: A Eurasian whimbrel ringed more than six years ago has been resighted on Elathur beach in Kozhikode, alongside a Tibetan sand-plover banded in Mumbai last year. Ornithologist Abdulla Paleri photographed the Eurasian whimbrel on September 19, noting it carried a black flag with the alphanumeric code '0J3' on its left leg and a metal ring on its right leg. The Bombay Natural History Society confirmed the bird was originally ringed on January 29, 2020, at the Kadalundi-Vallikkunnu Community Reserve by scientist S. Sivakumar, marking its first resighting since then. Meanwhile, birdwatcher P.P. Sreenivasan photographed a Tibetan sand-plover on Chavakkad beach in Thrissur on September 12, bearing two white flags with the code 'HZN' on its right leg and a metal ring on its left leg. That bird had been banded in Mumbai on March 27, 2025, by researcher Kiran Dalvi. Experts note these resightings help map migration routes, stopover sites, and the connections between breeding and wintering grounds.
