BMW has thoroughly updated its flagship electric sedan for the 2027 model year, bringing fresh styling, upgraded battery technology, and a completely revamped cabin layout. The luxury EV range opens with two variants, the 50 xDrive and the 60 xDrive, both featuring a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain.
Performance and Power
The entry-level 50 xDrive model delivers 449 horsepower, while the higher-tier 60 xDrive pumps out 536 horsepower. Both versions draw power from a 113-kWh lithium-ion battery pack with improved energy density. The EPA estimates a maximum driving range of up to 373 miles for the lineup. Using a DC fast charger at a peak charge rate of up to 250 kW, the vehicle can go from 10 to 80 percent charge in 28 minutes under optimal conditions. All models come equipped with a standard NACS charge port along with adapters for other charger types.
Exterior and Interior Design
Outside, the i7 adopts styling elements from BMW's Neue Klasse vehicles, including slimmer front kidney grilles and a single-strip headlight design that replaces the previous split-tier setup. The rear taillights now stretch further into the trunk lid. Inside, the cabin features a new 17.9-inch hexagonal infotainment screen paired with a width-spanning instrument cluster projected onto the base of the windshield. Front passengers also get a separate 14.6-inch display, while rear-seat passengers can opt for a massive 31.3-inch 8K screen that folds down from the ceiling. Standard comfort features include 18-way power adjustable leather seats with heat and ventilation, alongside an 18-cubic-foot trunk.
Pricing and Warranty
Pricing starts at $107,750 for the 50 xDrive, while the 60 xDrive begins at $126,250. Standard factory coverage includes basic protection for four years or 50,000 miles, along with a three-year complimentary maintenance plan.
Context
Luxury electric sedans are increasingly adopting ultra-fast charging capabilities and advanced digital cockpits to compete with traditional high-end fuel-powered flagship cars. The shift toward standardized NACS charging ports across major automakers aims to make long-distance EV travel much easier for consumers.
