More than 300 mandals in Telangana are currently facing drought conditions. Transport and Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced that an all-party meeting will take place in Hyderabad on October 28 to discuss ways to handle the impact of deficient rainfall and El Nino.
Delegation to Delhi
A delegation made up of all-party representatives will travel to New Delhi after the meeting. The group plans to ask the central government for help to deal with the crisis.
Procurement and Local Updates
Mr. Prabhakar shared these details on Monday in Husnabad of Siddipet district while opening paddy and cotton procurement centres at the Agricultural Market Yard. Authorities are setting up 136 procurement centres across the Husnabad Assembly constituency to keep the buying process smooth and clear. Officials are also warning farmers about how low rainfall and El Nino might affect water and power supplies. Meanwhile, work on land acquisition for the Gouravelli project canals is moving forward quickly, and authorities will provide Indiramma houses to families living in huts or those who lost homes due to road work in areas like Chigurumamidi and Sundaragiri.
Context
El Nino is a weather pattern linked to warmer sea temperatures that often brings low rainfall and dry conditions to parts of India. State governments frequently seek financial and logistical support from the central administration when agricultural regions suffer from severe dry spells and water shortages.
