UPDATE - follow-up to Defender 110 prices drop by up to Rs 34 lakh with local assembly: JLR has started local assembly of the Defender 110 in India using a completely knocked down (CKD) process, lowering its ex‑showroom price by up to Rs 34 lakh. Both the 3‑litre diesel and 3‑litre turbo‑petrol X‑Dynamic HSE variants now cost Rs 1.18 crore in New Delhi, down from Rs 1.52 crore for fully imported units. The 2‑litre turbo‑petrol version is priced at Rs 99 lakh, a Rs 14 lakh cut from the earlier Rs 1.13 crore tag. Bookings are accepted online and offline, with first deliveries slated for 15 November. The Defender 90, 110 and 110 Octa will still arrive as fully imported models. The India‑made 2.0‑litre petrol Defender gains standard features worth up to Rs 6.5 lakh, such as adaptive off‑road cruise control, air suspension with adaptive dynamics, interior rear‑view mirror, three‑zone climate control and an air purifier. Headlight washer, spare‑wheel lock, body‑coloured spare‑wheel cover, manual third‑row seats, a front centre console refrigerator and 14‑way electrically adjustable front seats with heating, cooling and memory are also standard. JLR also assembles select versions of the Range Rover, Sport, Velar, Evoque and Discovery Sport locally. The Defender was JLR India’s best‑selling model in FY2026, and together with the Range Rover and Sport it made up more than 80 % of the firm’s Indian sales last fiscal year.
Context
CKD assembly lets manufacturers import parts at lower duty rates and add value locally, which often results in lower on‑road prices for buyers.
