TVS and Bajaj drove nearly half of all electric two-wheeler sales in September 2026, according to new data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations. Five major brands, including TVS, Bajaj, Ather, Vida, and Ola, made up about 82 percent of the 2.07 lakh electric two-wheelers sold that month.
Market Growth
Electric two-wheelers grew to 11.6 percent of the total two-wheeler market in September 2026, up from 8.2 percent in September 2025. Between January and August 2026, electric models reached 9.9 percent of the overall two-wheeler market, compared to 5.5 percent in the 2024 financial year. Electric scooters alone saw their market share climb from 16.8 percent to 24.1 percent in the same timeframe.
Consumer Trends
Buyer interest is rising steadily across the country. The share of people thinking about buying an electric two-wheeler for their next vehicle went up to 43 percent in 2026, compared to 30 percent in 2024. At the same time, consumers who completely reject electric vehicles dropped from 38 percent to 29 percent. A study by Boston Consulting Group found that electric models meet or beat customer expectations in affordability, comfort, and performance, though buyers still worry about range, durability, and highway usage.
Context
Electric vehicle adoption in India relies heavily on expanding charging networks and improving battery tech to address range anxiety. Industry reports often track dealer association data to measure real consumer demand and retail sales trends beyond factory shipments.
