Hyundai has launched its new Bayon midsize SUV in India with prices ranging from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 17.99 lakh. Measuring 4,245 mm in length, the Bayon is powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder MPi petrol engine that makes 115 PS and 143.8 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual or an Intelligent Variable Transmission. Despite its compact dimensions and a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh, the Bayon offers a segment-leading 505 litres of boot space. However, it misses out on six key features found in competing midsize SUVs. While it gets an 8-way powered driver seat, the co-driver seat is manually adjustable only, lacking the boss mode available on the Creta and Sierra. The large boot also features a manual tailgate instead of a powered one, and the cabin lacks dual-zone climate control. Furthermore, rear passengers miss out on sunshades and a dedicated wireless phone charger, while the driver's console does not include a head-up display.
Context
The midsize SUV segment in India is crowded with over a dozen competing models, forcing carmakers to offer extensive feature lists to attract buyers. Models in this category typically offer varied powertrain choices, ranging from traditional petrol engines to hybrids and CNG setups, along with high-tech comfort features to appeal to family buyers.
