Audi has unveiled its new flagship Q9 SUV, a full-size luxury vehicle measuring 5,310mm in length with a 3,137mm wheelbase that positions it directly above the Q7 in the brand's lineup.
Exterior and Design
The Q9 features an imposing road presence driven by a massive front grille with illuminated vertical slats, slim LED running lamps, and curved OLED tail-lamps that can display warning symbols. It rides on wheels ranging from 20 to 23 inches and shares its Premium Platform Combustion architecture with other recent Audi models.
Cabin and Features
The cabin centers around a 12.3-inch driver display, a 12.3-inch front passenger screen, and a 14.5-inch central touchscreen, alongside a 4D Bang & Olufsen sound system and Level 2.5 autonomous driving capabilities. The second row offers generous space with a bench seat or optional power captain's chairs, while the third row is best suited for children on short trips. Boot space measures 280 litres behind the third row and expands to 700 litres when it is folded.
Performance
In India, the Q9 will feature a 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine delivering 367hp and 500Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed torque-converter automatic transmission and an updated Quattro all-wheel-drive system. Audi is considering local assembly for the model ahead of its Indian market launch next year, where it is expected to compete with large luxury SUVs.
Context
Full-size luxury SUVs have become top-tier status symbols for high-net-worth buyers and celebrities globally. Automakers often evaluate local assembly in India to optimize pricing and remain competitive against imported alternatives.
