Prominent journalists staged a walkout from a promotional event for the upcoming film Ramayana held at Film City on September 26, following a three-and-a-half-hour delay and poor communication from the publicity team.
Schedule Confusion And Delay
The confusion began a day prior on September 25 when the media received multiple revised invites within two hours, each stating a different timing before finally settling on a 1:30 pm start. Journalists, photographers, and cameramen travelled to Film City, which is located about 5 kilometres from the railway station and nearly 4 kilometres from the nearest Metro station. The event failed to start on time, and the publicity team offered no clear answers until after 3:00 pm when they announced that YouTuber MrBeast's flight from Bengaluru was delayed.
Conflict And Team Reactions
When journalists questioned the lack of updates, members of the PR team reportedly told them they were free to leave if they did not want to wait. According to reports, actor Ranbir Kapoor later told journalists that if they felt like leaving, they could do so, though an attending journalist clarified that Ranbir spoke without arrogance and was himself irritated by the hold-up after arriving before the media. Actor Sai Pallavi had also been present since the morning and expressed her displeasure to the team. The attendee further claimed that MrBeast's foreign-dominated team kept the local PR crew in the dark regarding landing times.
Brief Finale
The event eventually began around 5:00 pm and wrapped up in barely 20 minutes without any major new announcements. Aside from Ravie Dubey, no team members apologized for the delay. Ranbir Kapoor, Namit Malhotra, and Ravie Dubey lifted the 'Shiv Dhanush' during the gathering, while MrBeast chanted "Jai Shri Ram" for social media videos, leaving exhausted journalists who had left their homes by 11:00 am or noon feeling that their entire Saturday was wasted.
Context
Film publicity events in major entertainment hubs like Mumbai often rely on tight schedules to manage press attendance across multiple locations. Delays in travel or guest arrivals can disrupt these timelines, creating friction between organizers and media personnel who depend on punctuality for their daily reporting.
