The makers of the upcoming film Ramayana are planning a worldwide release on Thursday, November 5, shifting from earlier reported dates. Stakeholders are largely on board with this new date, and an official announcement will follow final approval.
Release Strategy
Most major Diwali releases since 2014 have arrived a day after the Festival of Lights because audiences are often busy with prayers and festivities on Diwali itself. However, bringing Ramayana to cinemas three days before Diwali highlights the makers' strong confidence in the project. With immense hype, box office collections could reach historic levels by the major post-Diwali holiday on November 9.
Cast and Crew
Dharma Productions will handle distribution in India, while Sony Pictures holds the overseas distribution rights. The movie is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, known for Dangal, and produced by Namit Malhotra. The cast features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. Music for the film is composed by A R Rahman and Hans Zimmer.
Context
Ramayana is planned as a two-part cinematic saga, with the first part slated for Diwali 2026 and the second part scheduled to arrive on the big screen in Diwali 2027. Major festival release dates are often adjusted by film studios to maximize holiday box office collections and secure extended opening week benefits.
