Tata Motors has rolled out its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) financing to all six of its electric cars, letting buyers split the battery cost from the vehicle price. The scheme, earlier limited to the Tiago.ev and Punch.ev, now includes the Nexon.ev, Curvv.ev, Sierra.ev and Harrier.ev.
Pricing
Under BaaS the entry‑trim price starts at Rs 4.69 lakh for the Tiago.ev, Rs 6.59 lakh for the Punch.ev, Rs 8.99 lakh for the Nexon.ev, Rs 10.99 lakh for the Curvv.ev, Rs 11.99 lakh for the Sierra.ev and Rs 14.49 lakh for the Harrier.ev. Compared with the regular on‑road price, the upfront saving ranges from Rs 2.30 lakh for the Tiago to Rs 7.30 lakh for the Harrier.
How It Works
The battery is financed through a separate loan, so the vehicle and battery have independent tenures and EMI calculations. EMI depends on battery size, down‑payment and loan term; Tata has partnered with several financiers to offer options. Battery sizes run from 19 kWh (Tiago) to 65 kWh (Harrier). The quoted per‑kilometre battery cost does not cover charging, maintenance, repairs or statutory levies such as road tax, insurance and TCS. The figures assume a daily run of 60 km for most models and 44 km for the Tiago.ev, and apply only to personal users. Chief Commercial Officer Vivek Srivatsa said customers want more financing flexibility and that extending BaaS to larger SUVs brings their upfront prices closer to lower‑price brackets. Tata describes BaaS as a dual‑loan product with flexible tenures and states there is no hidden battery down‑payment.
Context
BaaS aims to make EVs more affordable by lowering the initial cash outlay, a step that matches growing demand for flexible financing among Indian car buyers.
