Royal Enfield's best-selling Classic 350 motorcycle has been spotted testing with a new set of tubeless spoke wheels, potentially solving a long-standing maintenance headache for riders.
Wheel Design and Punctures
Spyshots show a Medallion Bronze Classic 350 featuring a black-finished front rim with spokes attached to a central raised flange, resembling the design seen on the Meteor 350 Sundowner Orange limited edition rather than the side-laced cross-spoke wheels on the Goan Classic 350 and Himalayan 450. Fixing a puncture on a standard wire-spoke wheel requires removing the wheel and dealing with an inner tube, whereas tubeless tyres allow quick roadside plugs without removing the wheel, while keeping the classic retro look that alloy wheels usually spoil.
Market Context
This potential upgrade follows intense competition from rivals like Honda, which refreshed its CB350 range and introduced a CB500 with tubeless wheels as standard on top variants, alongside upcoming alternatives like the Triumph Bonneville 350. The Classic 350 recently led Royal Enfield's domestic sales in September with 47,286 units sold, marking 16.90 percent growth and contributing 38.97 percent of the brand's domestic volumes. Royal Enfield has not yet clarified if these wheels will debut as factory options on specific variants or as accessories for existing owners, and mechanical components like the 349cc engine are expected to remain unchanged.
Context
Tubeless tyres are widely preferred by modern riders because they deflate slowly during a puncture rather than going flat instantly, making highway riding safer. While alloy wheels offer this benefit, traditional motorcycle enthusiasts often prefer wire spokes for their classic appearance and ability to handle rough road impacts better.
