The Adoor traffic police booked the mother of a 16-year-old boy and the registered owner of a motorcycle after catching two minors driving a car and riding a motorcycle near Parakkode in Ezhamkulam.

What Happened

Police acted on a tip-off after receiving information that a teenager frequently drove through busy stretches of Adoor town and Kodumon while posting videos of himself driving on social media. Officers stepped up inspections over two days and intercepted the car near Parakkode-Ezhamkulam around 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Another teenager from Nedumon drove the car without a licence, and the 16-year-old arrived soon after on a motorcycle. Police clips and videos showed the teenagers speeding on busy roads, squeezing between heavy vehicles, and performing car drifts.

Legal Action

The car was registered to a Nedumon resident in Ezhamkulam. The motorcycle was registered in the name of 65-year-old Raveendran from Pathanapuram in Kollam. Police filed cases under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, alongside Sections 180, 181, and 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, covering rash driving, unauthorised use, juvenile offences, and driving without a licence. Raveendran told officers he sold the motorcycle months ago without updating registration details, though officials stated action remains possible against the person listed on the records unless transfer documents are submitted.

Context

Allowing minors to drive on public roads poses a severe safety risk to pedestrians and other motorists alike. Traffic police routinely monitor social media platforms to track down illegal stunt driving and traffic violations committed by underage drivers.
