Milestone

Volkswagen India says the Taigun has crossed the 100,000‑unit mark in domestic sales. SIAM wholesale data show 99,095 units sold by end‑September 2026, and the remaining 905 were booked in the first half of October. Export shipments total 52,751 units, taking overall sales to 1,51,846 units across the country and abroad.

Sales Journey

FY2023 was the strongest year with 21,736 cars sold, making up 53 % of VW India’s 41,326 passenger‑vehicle deliveries. Sales slipped to 20,485 in FY2024, a 6 % fall, and further to 19,910 in FY2025, down 3 % year‑on‑year. FY2026 saw a sharp drop to 12,912 units, 35 % lower than the previous year, leaving the Taigun as the second‑best seller after the Virtus sedan’s 22,959 units and ahead of the Tiguan (1,126) and Tayron (238). Analysts point to the Taigun’s positioning below flagship midsize rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Victoris as a possible cause.

Recent Uptick

In the first half of FY2027 the model logged 7,163 sales, a 4 % rise over the same period in FY2026, boosted by the mid‑April 2026 facelift that added fresh styling, extra equipment and a new automatic gearbox. The SUV is built on VW’s MQB A0 IN platform under the India 2.0 project and shares its underpinnings with the Skoda Kushaq, which has sold 104,863 units since June 2021. Autocar notes the facelift improves the 1.0 TSI gearbox and adds features, while the 1.5 TSI engine still delivers a solid, fun driving feel, though interior space remains tighter than many rivals.

Context

Crossing 100,000 domestic units marks a key milestone for a foreign midsize SUV in a market dominated by local players, showing the impact of VW’s India 2.0 strategy and the importance of periodic updates to keep sales alive.
