Aston Martin has revealed the Valhalla Spider, a plug-in hybrid hypercar that the manufacturer claims is its fastest open-top vehicle ever. ## What Happened The new convertible matches the Valhalla Coupe's 350kph top speed, reaching it even with the roof off, and shares its 1,079hp powertrain. The car is set to make its global debut at the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas from October 29 to November 1, 2026, with global deliveries scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2027. According to Autocar UK, the model is expected to make up a quarter of the 999-unit production run, commanding a price of around £1.3 million, and most units have already been sold ahead of production.
Powertrain and Performance
The supercar combines a 4.0-litre flat-plane-crank twin-turbo V8 engine producing 828hp and 868Nm with three electric motors and a 6.1kWh battery pack. This setup delivers a combined output of 1,079hp and 1,100Nm of torque. Two electric motors reside on the front axle to provide torque vectoring, while the third is integrated into an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox without a reverse gear, leaving reversing duties to the front electric motors. The vehicle accelerates from zero to 100kph in a claimed 2.5 seconds and weighs 1,680kg in dry form with lightweight options, carrying 25kg more than the coupe according to Autocar UK. Drivers can select from four drive modes: Sport, Sport+, Race, and EV.
Design and Aerodynamics
The car features a removable black fabric roof as standard in most markets, while a carbon-fibre hard-top comes standard in the US and is optional elsewhere. With the fabric roof attached, the top speed is limited to 200kph. A wind deflector manages airflow when the roof is removed, folding into three parts to fit into 15-litre storage compartments in the sills when not in use. The carbon-fibre tub was engineered by Aston Martin Performance Technologies, the F1 team's consulting arm, and is paired with aluminium subframes, pushrod double-wishbone front suspension, adaptive Bilstein dampers, and standard carbon-ceramic brakes with 410mm front and 390mm rear discs. Active aerodynamics include a rear wing rising 255mm in 'Race' mode and a concealed front wing, generating over 600kg of downforce with the roof fitted.
Interior and Features
Inside, the Valhalla Spider comes standard with carbon-fibre 'Touring' seats, knurled metal, and weaved carbon-fibre trim, alongside a 10.25-inch digital driver's display and a matching 10.25-inch touch-infotainment system with Apple CarPlay. The cabin also includes a digital rear-view mirror, Alcantara trim, and an optional Bowers & Wilkins audio system. Safety equipment features autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, lane-keeping assist, and driver monitoring, while Aston Martin's Q division offers extensive customisation options including tinted carbon-fibre finishes and ten distinct liveries.
Context
High-performance automakers frequently introduce open-top variants of their flagship supercars to appeal to collectors and enthusiasts who value open-air driving experiences alongside extreme speed. These ultra-exclusive limited-run vehicles utilise advanced motorsport-derived materials like carbon fibre to maintain structural rigidity despite the removal of a fixed roof.
