The Kerala government will take strict action against people who make and sell fake lottery tickets using social media and artificial intelligence, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan told the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
The Problem
Illegal sales of fake tickets under the name of official paper lotteries are causing big money losses to the state treasury. Fraudsters are selling the exact same ticket to many different people through social media platforms, which creates serious trouble for real lottery workers and the general public. The Chief Minister warned that this illegal network is turning into a large-scale criminal operation, with high numbers of these activities reported in districts like Palakkad.
Action And Law
The Lotteries Department has taken strict steps against those doing this wrong. Under the Lotteries Regulation Act, these crimes can lead to up to two years in prison. Scammers are printing bogus tickets and using AI tools to make them look real. They often give out small prizes to build trust with victims, but they switch off their phones when people try to claim larger prize amounts.
Context
Official state lotteries are a major source of revenue for many Indian state governments and provide a livelihood for thousands of small vendors. Counterfeit operations directly threaten public trust in these state-run programs and cheat everyday buyers out of their hard-earned money.
