Music composer Salim Merchant has bought a commercial property in Santacruz West, Mumbai, for Rs 12.85 crore, according to registration documents obtained by CRE Matrix. The deal was recorded on Oct 7 2026 and involved five buyers who together paid Rs 77.10 lakh in stamp duty, equal to 6 % of the declared value. Merchant holds a 50 % share in the premises, while the other four investors each own 12.5 %. The seller was Shreeja Devcon Private Limited. The property comprises the ground and first floors of the DLH Mangal Murti building, offering a combined carpet area of 1,285 sq ft – 575 sq ft on the ground floor and 710 sq ft above – and includes one car parking slot. At the reported price, the purchase works out to roughly Rs 1 lakh per square foot of carpet area. The purchase underscores the continued demand for commercial real estate in Mumbai’s prime neighbourhoods despite broader market fluctuations. The transaction adds to a growing list of high‑value real‑estate purchases by Bollywood celebrities in Mumbai’s premium commercial zones.
Context
Mumbai’s upscale districts routinely command premium rates for commercial space, often approaching Rs 1 lakh per square foot. Celebrities frequently invest in such properties as both status symbols and income‑generating assets.
