Markets in the Madhuban tehsil area of Mau saw heavy crowds on Wednesday, just one day before the Karwa Chauth festival. Shopping continued until late in the evening as a large number of women stepped out to buy essential items. Women gathered in large numbers at cosmetic and makeup shops across the markets. Fruit shops and other stores also witnessed steady customer movement. Several areas turned into bustling fair-like settings, including Dargah, Dubari, Sipah, Bibipur, Maryadpur, Fatehpur, and the Madhuban Nagar Panchayat market. The heavy rush inside the Madhuban Nagar Panchayat market led to severe traffic jams that troubled people throughout the day. Street vendors and pushcart owners occupied both sides of the road, narrowing the wide streets and causing repeated traffic snarls. Clay pots also saw steady sales across the markets as potters set up roadside stalls. Colorful earthen pots were sold at prices ranging from 30 to 40 rupees per piece.

Context

Festivals like Karwa Chauth traditionally drive large crowds to local markets across northern India for holiday shopping. Street congestion frequently increases during major celebration days due to temporary roadside vending and high pedestrian movement. Local markets often see high demand for traditional items, fresh fruits, and festive pottery during this period.
