Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for central help to solve the Jawaharnagar landfill crisis.
What Happened
He began a four‑day padayatra on Tuesday in Jawaharnagar, joined by Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao and party activists. On day two he visited Rampally lake and noted foul odour, contaminated water and rising health issues in nearby colonies. He said the private firm running the dump and municipal officials have submitted misleading reports on waste processing and leachate treatment. He alleged untreated polluted water is flowing into canals and lakes, harming agriculture, livestock and local livelihoods. He warned that without action, mass agitation could erupt.
Reaction
Rajender said the Centre will help if Telangana prepares a Detailed Project Report. He assured locals of his full support and announced a public meeting on October 30 to demand a permanent solution. He highlighted a rise in serious illnesses such as cancer and kidney disease, and said local water is now unsafe for domestic use.
Context
Landfill mismanagement often leads to leachate seepage, which can pollute groundwater and surface water, affecting health and farming. Central assistance usually requires a detailed project plan from the state to fund remediation.
