The Incident

Four Central Industrial Security Force personnel died on Tuesday evening after a fellow jawan opened fire in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. The victims include a Company Commander and a Sub-Inspector.

Location and Details

The shooting happened at the Sewa Hydel Power Project located between Basohli in Jammu and Kashmir and Chamba in Himachal Pradesh. The unit was deployed near the Chamera Dam on the Ravi river.

Casualties and Suspect

The officers who lost their lives are Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh, and constables Sanjeev Kumar and Mohd. Rafiq. Authorities managed to catch the armed jawan responsible for the shooting.

Investigation

Police from Basohli rushed to the remote spot as soon as reports came in. Officials noted that getting to the site requires traveling through Himachal Pradesh because it sits at the far edge of Kathua district. Investigators have not yet found out what caused the argument or shooting.

Context

Security forces operating in isolated or high-stress project sites often face challenging conditions that can sometimes lead to tragic internal conflicts. Authorities usually carry out a deep inquiry into such incidents to check on mental health support and weapon safety rules within camps.
