Volkswagen is preparing to launch the updated Virtus sedan in December 2026, according to dealer sources. This will be the first mid-life update for the popular car, while its sibling, the Skoda Slavia, received an update earlier this month. Test mules have already been spotted multiple times to test new features.

Exterior and Interior Updates

Most exterior changes focus on the front and rear of the car. The new model is expected to feature a full-width LED light strip with an illuminated Volkswagen logo, alongside a sharper front bumper and a revised grille. The side profile stays mostly the same, except for new alloy wheel designs, new colour choices, and traditional door handles. The rear will feature refreshed tail lamps, a possible illuminated logo, and bumper tweaks. Inside, the cabin gets a new theme and refreshed upholstery. The 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system remains, but with an updated user interface. The smaller 8-inch digital instrument cluster will be upgraded to a larger 10.25-inch unit.

Performance and Safety

The facelift keeps the existing 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo petrol engines. The 1.0-litre engine puts out 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque, and it now gets a new 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission to replace the older 6-speed automatic. A 6-speed manual transmission will also continue for this engine. The 1.5-litre engine continues to produce 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG transmission. Safety equipment will keep features like six airbags, electronic stability control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system, with the potential addition of a 360-degree camera setup. Prices might see a slight increase, though the base variant could keep its earlier price.

Context

Mid-cycle updates allow car makers to keep their models fresh against new competition without building a completely new vehicle from scratch. The Volkswagen Virtus currently sits in a price range stretching from Rs 10.71 lakh up to Rs 19.20 lakh for the top Virtus Sport variant.
