Injury Update

Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna will miss the upcoming five-match ODI series against New Zealand because he has not fully recovered from a hamstring injury. A BCCI source informed the news agency PTI about this development. The ODI series between India and New Zealand begins on November 4, 2026. Prasidh sustained this injury during a home ODI series against the West Indies and is currently going through the recovery process. He is scheduled to undergo a match simulation and a fitness test on November 1 and 2 at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Management Strategy

A BCCI source stated that Prasidh is recovering well, but the team management and the national selection committee believe he should focus on achieving full fitness for Test cricket rather than ODIs, as his presence is required more in the longer format. With Prasidh sidelined, Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Aqib Nabi could get an opportunity in the Indian ODI squad. Aqib impressed selectors with his performance in the first unofficial red-ball match played between India A and New Zealand A in Lincoln.

Context

Player fitness management is a key priority for national cricket boards, especially when handling fast bowlers returning from serious injuries like hamstring strains. Balancing workloads across different formats helps protect players from long-term fitness setbacks and ensures they are available for high-priority series.
