A new low-pressure area has formed over the Gulf of Thailand and nearby sea areas. This development follows the recent crossing of Cyclone Arnab across the Andhra-Yanam coast. Private weather expert Hemachandar stated that this new system formed because the eastern winds have not turned back yet.

Strengthening System

The system is likely to grow into a deep low-pressure area over the southern Andaman Sea within the next 24 hours. Following that, it could intensify into a low-pressure depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal in another 24 hours. Moving in a west-northwest direction, this depression is expected to head toward north Tamil Nadu and nearby south Andhra Pradesh coastal areas by November 1.

Monsoon Impact

Tamil Nadu's northeast monsoon entered its first spell till the night of October 25, followed by scattered showers. The second spell of the northeast monsoon will begin in Tamil Nadu starting November 1 due to this new weather system. Forecasters predict that this spell will bring good rainfall mostly to the northern parts of Tamil Nadu.

Context

Weather systems forming in the Bay of Bengal and surrounding regions during this time of the year regularly drive monsoon rainfall patterns across southern India. Tracking the movement of low-pressure areas helps meteorologists anticipate heavy rainfall events days in advance.
