Search Operation
Rescue teams are searching for a lorry driver who went missing after his vehicle fell into a muddy pond in Palakkad district. The incident took place at a quarry in Karukaputhur near Pattambi on Thursday morning. The missing driver is Thahir, a native of Chathanur.
The Accident
Thahir was inside the tipper lorry when a mound of earth collapsed during soil-filling work at the site. The vehicle rolled backward, overturned into a nearby pond, and sank deep into the mud. The quarry had been undergoing soil-filling work for about a month before the accident happened.
Rescue Efforts and Background
Fire and Rescue Services teams from Pattambi, Shoranur and Malappuram arrived at the scene to carry out the search operation. Before working as a tipper lorry driver locally, Thahir had worked in the Gulf region and returned home six months ago.
Context
Accidents at quarries and construction sites often involve unstable ground conditions like loose soil mounds near water bodies. Emergency response teams regularly deploy specialized units to handle vehicles and victims trapped in deep mud or water.
