Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed party units to immediately suspend any rebel candidates who run against National Democratic Alliance nominees in the upcoming local body polls. During a Cabinet meeting held on Thursday, Mr. Naidu stressed that all alliance partners must follow coalition rules without any second thoughts.
Seat Sharing And Public Response
The Chief Minister noted that seat-sharing plans were worked out jointly by himself, Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena Party president K. Pawan Kalyan, and BJP State president P.V.N. Madhav. Mr. Pawan Kalyan stated that the three parties sent a strong message by finalizing the arrangement together, and added that minor issues inside his party and the BJP are being sorted out. Mr. Naidu pointed out that the government has received a good response from the public regarding development and welfare steps taken over the past two and a half years, and urged voters to back the NDA as a block instead of voting for individual people.
Minister Responsibilities And Election Order
Mr. Naidu told in-charge Ministers to look after the districts they are assigned to, making it clear that they are responsible for making alliance candidates win and must settle any disputes right away. The local polls will start with urban local bodies, Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies, and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies, and will be followed by gram panchayat elections and later elections to cooperative societies.
Context
Local body elections in Indian states involve multiple tiers of grassroots governance and are often intensely contested by local leaders and party workers. When ruling coalitions face rebellion from members who miss out on tickets, enforcing strict party discipline helps prevent split votes that could benefit opposition groups.
