Independent mayoral candidate Dr. Sparsha Chowdary unveiled a manifesto that puts underground drainage at the heart of her plan for Vizianagaram. She said the city’s open drains are the main cause of health problems. Chowdary, a senior dental surgeon, said her medical background makes her aware of the link between poor drainage and disease. The manifesto calls for replacing open drains with a fully underground system, improving sanitation and tightening waste management. It also promises transparent, corruption‑free governance, widening of roads, promotion of tourism spots and a faster public grievance redressal system. She emphasized she did not seek a ticket from any major party because the Constitution lets any citizen run independently. She argued that independents can act without party bias and can address public grievances quickly. She said better waste collection will cut litter on city streets. She aims to attract more visitors to Vizianagaram’s cultural sites. The release took place on Thursday in Vizianagaram.
Context
Many Indian towns are moving from open to underground drainage to cut water‑borne diseases and improve public health.
