Food Safety and Drug Administration Department officials carried out a special State-wide inspection of 45 packaged drinking water units on Thursday. Teams uncovered multiple violations during the checks, such as unhygienic conditions, missing FSSAI licences, labelling defects, a lack of pest control certificates, and staff working without medical fitness certificates. Authorities sent 32 water samples to government food laboratories for testing and issued notices to 24 units. Officers also seized misbranded packaged drinking water from units in Mysuru and Davangere, and shut down a unit in Mulbagal located in Kolar district due to poor hygiene. Health Minister U.T. Khader advised consumers to check for the FSSAI licence number, ISI mark, manufacturing date, and seal before buying packaged water. He also asked the public to use the provided QR code to report any irregularities.
Context
Packaged drinking water units must meet strict safety and hygiene rules to prevent waterborne illnesses. Regular inspections by food safety authorities help ensure that bottled water sold to the public is safe for consumption.
