UPDATE - follow-up to Golden State Valkyries v Atlanta Dream: WNBA finals 2026 Game 6 – live: The Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream meet for Game 6 of the WNBA finals at Atlanta's State Farm Arena, with the visiting Valkyries holding a three-game to two lead in the best-of-seven series and aiming to clinch the championship.
Scheduling Challenges
The unusual 12:30 pm weekday start time was arranged after extensive talks involving the WNBA, the NBA, the Dream, and the Valkyries. The Atlanta Dream normally play at Gateway Center Arena, which holds around 3,500 people, but moved their playoff games to State Farm Arena, which seats more than 17,000 fans. The Dream stated that their concerns regarding the scheduling went unheeded. The venue must also host an NBA game between the Atlanta Hawks and the Cleveland Cavaliers later tonight, with that game pushed back from 7 pm to 8 pm Eastern Time to allow staff time to switch the court branding.
Team Form and Standouts
Despite the matinee timing, the game is a sellout, with over 10,000 tickets sold in the first 90 minutes. Dream player Angel Reese scored 30 and 21 points in Games 2 and 3 victories, but was held to single digits in the last two games with eight points and nine rebounds in Game 4 and seven points and 15 rebounds in Game 5. For the Valkyries, Veronica Burton scored 13 points and blocked four shots in Game 5, tying Diana Taurasi's 2009 record for most blocks by a guard in a game, prompting coach Natalie Nakase to call her the best point guard in the league. Center Kiah Stokes has also been a defensive force with three or more blocks in all five games and 13 points in Game 5.
Context
WNBA finals series are structured as best-of-seven matchups, requiring teams to secure four victories to claim the title. Arena scheduling conflicts frequently arise when basketball teams share major venues with other professional sports franchises or entertainment events.
